Why I signed the Creatives for Climate commitment and what it means for you

I’m not casually concerned about the environment. I’m angry, heartbroken and constantly questioning how we still let big corps trash the very systems that keep us alive. The environment is our home. Without it, there is no business, no economy, no tomorrow. And yet somehow, it’s still treated like an afterthought. It makes zero sense, morally or logically, that we allow companies to poison the air we breathe, the soil that feeds us, the water we drink, and let them profit from it. Meanwhile, protecting life, restoring balance, working toward a healthier and livable future? That’s still underfunded, under-prioritised, and often treated as optional, or even criticised?

I’ve been lucky enough to work inside an organisation in France that actively protects nature, but jobs like that are rare. Since I’ve started freelancing, I’ve had to ask: how do I keep contributing to the transition, not just in my personal life, but through my work? As a designer, I believe creative work doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It shapes culture, drives decisions, and influences what people value. That’s why two years ago I joined Creatives for Climate. If I can nudge even one brief, one brand or one business decision in a more responsible direction… Then I’m doing my job right.

Creatives for Climate is a global network that brings together independent creatives, agencies, and mission-aligned brands to channel creative power toward climate solutions. Today it spans 90+ countries, supports thousands of members, and is recognized by the UN’s Race to Zero as a key accelerator of strategic climate communication. Through its open Hub, members access trainings, toolkits, courses, events, ethical agency collaborations, and a community committed to conscious creative practice.

Signing the Creative for Climate commitment isn’t symbolic, it actively shapes how I work with my clients, what I recommend, and the kind of projects I choose to take on.

What I’ve committed to:

I’ve formally pledged to five core principles:

  • ACTIVE PARTICIPATION
We commit to shaping the change we seek, bringing ideas, solutions, and energy to support and drive all climate action efforts forward.

  • COLLABORATION
We commit to practicing radical collaboration to solve challenges no single person, agency, organization can do alone.

  • SOLUTIONS
We commit our creativity to paint a picture of what we are fighting for, not just what we’re fighting against.

  • INTERSECTIONALITY
We recognize the intersectional nature of the challenges we face and commit to social justice as part of taking a systemic approach to climate action.

  • DIVESTMENT FROM DESTRUCTION
We believe that “creativity for good” can only exist alongside a commitment to divest from working with big polluters, starting with fossil fuel clients.

What that means for you as a client

If we’re working together, here’s how this shows up in practice:

  • In print: I’ll always suggest sustainable print options: local printers, recycled stocks, vegetable inks and low-waste formats. I also design with longevity in mind, avoiding trends that become outdated and go straight to landfill.

  • In digital: I encourage streamlined, low-impact web design. This includes choosing a hosting company that has sustainability in mind, optimising file sizes, limiting unnecessary animation, and avoiding energy-intensive bloat. Sustainability in web design is real and measurable.

  • In strategy: If you’re developing a brand, product, or campaign, I’ll push you (constructively) to consider how it fits into a changing world. Sustainability isn’t a trend, it’s a business imperative.

  • In clients I work with: I choose to work with businesses and organizations that are actively moving toward better practices. If you’re in transition, great. If you’re committed to destruction, we’re not a match.

Creative work doesn’t just sell things, it tells the world what matters. By aligning our projects with sustainable, ethical practices, we’re building brands that are not only responsible, but future-proof. If you’re committed to doing better environmentally, socially, and strategically, I’m here to help you build that brand. Let’s create something that does more than look good. Let’s create something that stands for something!
